Learn to Play - Social

 

This course is designed for squash players looking to start playing squash for the first time. The course covers the basics of serving, hitting the ball, moving around the court, and rules and safety, and focuses on safe techniques, having fun and introducing players to others at Melbourne University Squash Club. 

 

A player suited to Learn to Play - Social is one that:

  • is new to the game, having either not undertaken formalised classes before or having done so many years ago;

  • may not be able to successfully serve the ball regularly or maintain a rally of 3-5 shots; and 

  • may be unsure of the rules and safety issues of the game.

Learn to Play - In-House

 

This course is designed for squash players looking to begin informal and friendly competitive play. 

The course covers more advanced techniques related to serving, volleying, and the use of walls and angles and focuses on the development of longer rallies, tactics for winning points, and further introducing players to others at Melbourne University Squash Club. 

 

A player suited to Learn to Play - In-House is one that:

  • has typically undertaken Learn to Play - Social and then developed the skills learned in that program across a few months of social play with friends or at Melbourne University Squash Club Social Squash;

  • can successfully serve the ball;

  • maintain a rally of 3-5 shots;

  • move competently to the front and the back of the court; and 

  • successfully be able to hit the ball both from and to the back half of the court. 

Learn to Play - Pennant

 

This course is designed for squash players looking to build the skills and knowledge required to commence competitive play. The course covers techniques and strategies relevant to playing squash at a competition level, and focuses on play to extend rallies and win points, and a deeper understanding of the rules of the game.

 

A player suited to Learn to Play - Pennant is one that:

  • has typically undertaken Learn to Play - In-House and then developed the skills learned in that program across several months at Melbourne University Squash Club Training or In-House; 

  • can successfully serve the ball; 

  • maintain a rally of 5+ shots;

  • move competently to the front and the back of the court; 

  • successfully hit the ball both from and to the front of the court;

  • successfully hit the ball both from and to the back of the court; and

  • can control where the ball goes on each shot.
